About

The science of vibration carries a rich history for centuries from the time of the concept of natural frequency by Pythagoreans in musical instruments, followed by the use of the pendulum in later centuries. However, the proper utilization of this field has prevailed from the middle of the 20th century with the emergence of ever-growing innovation of high- tech instruments for data capturing, signal processing and analysis. Further, vibration in structures due to a variety of reasons, such as different environmental loading and in rotating machinery, is highly undesirable and necessitates the application of vibration control technologies. Now, in the 21 st century with focus on Industry 4.0, there is a need to consider the vibration specialization as a multi-disciplinary study in engineering, to innovate and to infuse it seriously in component design, in order to speed up vibration diagnostics and related communications with higher level of accuracy, with the support of digital technology, Internet of Things (IOT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and/or Machine Learning (ML). The Council of Vibration Specialists (CVS)is committed to harness this potential through research and training in vibration as a fundamental physical science with an industry-focused application-approach, as built-in-design of vibration in assets, as risk mitigation of structural and seismic infrastructure, and as related development of mitigation techniques.

"Each celestial body, in fact each and every atom, produces a particular sound on account of its movement, its rhythm or vibration. All these sounds and vibrations form a universal harmony in which each element, while having it's own function and character, contributes to the whole."

CVS, a non- profit organization (first of its kind in the country exclusively on Vibration) has been formed by few expert professionals dedicated in Vibration Science and Engineering, both from academia and industry in order to scale up the reach of this inter-disciplinary specialization. There could be need to address design-reviews/ reengineering in systems/components from the site-experiences of vibration-induced flaws, to bring an awareness in every industry on huge energy-savings possibilities from machines with undesired high vibration and to speed up the vibration diagnostics and prognostics mechanism to a higher level of accuracy through the effective management of vibration knowledge empowering the engineers with necessary world-class skills and theoretical inputs along with specialized certifications on Vibration.

Vision

CVS aspires to be the centre of eminence at the national and global level for the dissemination of knowledge in the field of vibration science and engineering, through training and post graduate studies, to formulate standards, collaborate with national and international regulatory bodies on vibration science and engineering, to develop and compile information in the field to assist engineers in building reliable, stable and longer lasting products in the form of machines, structures and systems.

Mission

To provide a platform for scientists, researchers and engineers to come together for exchange of vibration knowledge through training programs, seminars, conferences, campus and corporate visits, vibration solution services, recognition of contribution made by the experts in the fields.

To collaborate with similar national and international institutes and organizations for imparting customized various levels of certified training programs, certifying the asset’s integrity in industry and enhancing people’s capability in solving vibration problems.

To review, modify/ establish vibration standards in the fields of emerging domains such as smart structures, transportation systems, machinery etc
